Exams at Garston Manor School
At Garston Manor School we strive to support all of our students to achieve their full academic potential.
We offer a comprehensive range of qualifications, both coursework based and internally assessed and externally marked examinations.
As a school, our aim is that all students leave Year 11 with a minimum Functional Skills Level Qualification in English, Maths, ICT and Entry Level Certificate in Science.
The method of assessment for Entry Level and Functional Skills is different to other national qualifications. Students can take the exams when they are ready, and not a nationally prescribed time. Students also have multiple opportunities to pass. Once students have gained one level, they will move on to the next.

Dependent on their interests, students may also gain vocational qualifications in PE, Art, Music and Home Cooking. In additional to this, we provide a vast range of vocational and life-skill qualifications using the AQA Unit Award Scheme.
Access Arrangements
Access Arrangements allow candidates/learners with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to access the assessment/examination without changing the demands of the assessment. These may involve readers, scribes, movement breaks and extra time. In this way, Awarding Bodies will comply with the duty of the Equality Act 2010 to make ‘reasonable adjustments’.
All of our students will be assessed and monitored thoroughly to ensure that when taking any assessments/examinations, they will be supported appropriately.
Policies and Procedures
Garston Manor School aim to ensure that we are always adhering to latest guidelines and regulations regarding exams and assessments, including GDPR standards. Reference documents are available on request.
